The HHMS Easter Concert – A Night to Remember

On 31 March 2025, the hall at St. Mary’s School was buzzing with excitement. Families, siblings, friends, and proud grandparents filled the room, ready to enjoy a very special HHMS event. Over two hours, we celebrated the talent and hard work of our students through thirteen solo performances and five RockJam bands.

The night had everything we love about HHMS. Above all, it showed what our students can do when they’re supported and encouraged. They brought energy, creativity, and community spirit to the stage in a way that felt both fun and meaningful.

A Stunning Variety of Student Performances

Memorable Solo Moments

Our solo performers, aged 7 to 15, took on a brilliant mix of songs that showed off their personalities and musical tastes. There were emotional ballads, blues solos, acoustic tunes, and some proper rock anthems too. Every piece was played with care and confidence. As a result, each one landed with the audience in a different way.

There were memorable moments throughout the evening. A piano interpretation of Hansel and Gretel brought quiet focus to the room, a powerful version of Seven Years by Lukas Graham told its story with emotion, and a confident take on Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne truly rocked the stage. Blackbird by The Beatles was performed beautifully on guitar, and Imagine Dragons’ I Don’t Know Why stood out as a powerful vocal moment. Another highlight came from two of our talented students. They delivered a heartfelt version of Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved with guitar and vocals. It was a performance that had the room holding its breath.

Confidence on Stage

Some students stepped up for the first time ever, facing the lights and the crowd with full confidence. Despite their hidden nerves, they looked completely at ease on stage. Others were back again, more confident, more in control, and clearly growing into their sound. Whether it was a quiet acoustic moment or a powerful stage presence, each performance brought real heart.

We’ve put together a solo highlights video that captures some of those amazing moments. It’s full of personality, courage and the kind of musical spark that defines HHMS. It captures the essence of the night and showcases the heart our students bring to their music.

RockJam Bands Take the Stage

Big Energy and Band Spirit

All five RockJam bands brought serious energy to the second half of the show. Each group lifted the vibe even more, keeping the room fully engaged. The setlists were a mix of classic rock, upbeat pop, and even an original song. Every performance felt confident, creative, and completely owned by the students on stage.

At HHMS, we love letting bands come up with their own names. It’s part of what makes each RockJam concert feel fresh. It adds personality and makes every set feel unique. This time, The Band With No Name and Highland Spring were among the line-up. One group even performed an original track called Melody, written and rehearsed by the students themselves. Playing your own music live is a challenge, but they handled it beautifully.

Other bands played songs by Amy Winehouse, James Bay, Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand. Take Me Out had the audience nodding along, and Helicopter closed the night with energy and attitude. These performances showed the kind of teamwork and confidence that RockJam is all about. A great way to end the night.

The HHMS Crew Behind the Music

Backstage had that perfect mix of quiet focus and excited buzz. Some students were fine-tuning their parts, others were laughing with friends or just taking in the moment.

Behind the scenes, the HHMS crew kept everything running like clockwork. James Hayto hosted with calm energy, checking in on students and keeping the whole night flowing smoothly. Harvey, who leads our RockJam workshops, and Vassilis were on hand throughout, helping bands set up, tuning guitars, and jumping in on bass and guitar when needed. Our sound engineer James W kept everything sounding clear and balanced throughout the night. Marta, who works closely with James H at HHMS, looked after the snack table with help from her daughter and friends, keeping everyone fuelled with crisps, biscuits and good vibes. Melissa greeted families at the door with a big smile, helping everyone feel instantly welcome.

It was also brilliant to see a few HHMS teachers in the audience, there to cheer on their students. That kind of quiet encouragement speaks volumes and shows exactly what our school community is all about.

What People Said About the Concert

The buzz in the room wasn’t just from the music. It came from the people, too. Parents, grandparents and friends shared lovely, honest comments that captured the whole HHMS vibe. One parent told us, “This was a big deal for …. We have never seen her so confident.” Another said, “Lovely atmosphere. So much fun and great to see all the kids supporting one another.” And one we especially loved? “I did not expect to hear that song at a school concert. Absolutely loved it.”

These reactions remind us what it’s all about. Music that brings people together and gives our students the courage to express something real.

Why Performing Matters at HHMS

We hold three school concerts every year: Christmas, Easter and Summer. These give our students regular chances to perform, try new music, and build confidence on stage.

Concerts move quickly. Solo performers open the show, and bands bring it to a close. That balance keeps things fun and engaging for everyone.

More than anything, performing gives our students a chance to grow. For many, it’s a moment they’ll remember for a long time.
